Holiness in our Midst

SESSION XXVIII: ON GIFTS TO JESUS

The Christmas tune, “Little Drummer Boy,” calls forth the question of what gift a poor boy could give to the Baby Jesus. It turns out that he played his drum (“rum-pum-pum-pum”) for the newborn King. That question also prompts me each year to think of what I can give to the Baby Jesus during Advent. Last year, it was a commitment to cut down on the amount of money I spent on gifts. This year my gift to honor Jesus will be a resolve to write personal notes on my Christmas cards, naming the ways each person has enhanced my life and thanking them for being my friends.

STORY CIRCLE QUESTION: What will your gift to Jesus be this year?

FOR PERSONAL/JOURNAL REFLECTION:

  1. Read the above reflection aloud.
  2. Write a journal reflection on a gift you would like to give to the Baby Jesus. It could be a commitment to change an attitude, address a bad habit, or alter a too-hectic holiday schedule. What will you bring to Him?

FOR GROUP STUDY:

  1. Read aloud Session XXVIII.
  2. Ask each person to answer the Story Circle Question.
