Take a good look at your hands. Name some things that your hands have done. Begin with…These hands…Ken Neher, former director of stewardship and donor development for the Church of the Brethren, shared this exercise at a chapel service at the General Offices in Elgin, IL. With his permission, I offer it to you along with his response to the exercise:
These hands have rocked three newborn girls
AND, they’ve changed a lot of diapers, braided locks of hair and tied a bazillion bows.
These hands have pruned, thinned, and picked apples, cherries, prunes, apricots and peaches
AND, they’ve picked out clothes to donate and food to share.
These hands have built model railroads and rockets, woven gum wrappers into a chain 150 feet long
AND, they’ve re-built hurricane damaged homes in Florida.
These hands have made hundreds of Whopper sandwiches, driven thousands of miles
AND, they’ve helped millions of dollars flow from donors to ministries that matter.
These hands have held my wife’s hand for 32 years
AND, they’ve held a close friend’s hand on his darkest day.
These hands have taken pictures, taken the SAT, taken wrong turns
AND, they’ve given gifts of flowers, hugs and help.
These hands have broken a finger, a thumb and a multitude of mails
AND, they’ve broken bread at God’s table here, across the country and across denominations.
